| Perhaps the most popular resort is Borovets, as it is a World Cup ski venue. Only 72km from Sofia and at 1,350m in the Rila Mountain, it is the oldest and largest mountain resort in Bulgaria.Â
| | The 2,400m Yastrebets, meaning Hawk's Nest is a steep, twisting red trail for the advanced skier. This run is open from November until April.
There are comfortable, friendly and well run hotels (example pictured) that offer most of the accommodation. There is a village of timber-framed houses nearby if self catering is preferred. Hotels usually provide most of the nightlife with a disco in The Mousalla. There is a wine bar and some folk taverns called "mehana", and sleigh rides through the snow are also available.
| | Pamporovo in the Rhodope Mountains is 85 km from Plovdiv. It has one of the best ski schools, and is the most southerly ski resort in Europe. The major ski runs start from the top of the 1,926m Snejanka Peak.

Two of the runs there have been approved for international competition. | | The newest resort is Bansko which is a small town in southwest region of Bulgaria in the foothills of the Pirin Mountains.
